People with a passion for people.
I spent 3 months at Hospice in Uganda. The staff are incredibly welcoming and the work they do to relieve the pain of patients is really life changing.

Things you might want to know
What opportunities are there to volunteer?
We need volunteers with varying skillsets, from medical students with an interest in palliative care to accountants, social media managers, photographers, videographers and business leaders. There are many facets to the operation at Hospice Africa and we’ll always welcome a helping hand.
How much will volunteering cost?
Depending on where you’ll choose to stay, we estimate you’ll need approximately $20 per day for food, accommodation and transport. You’ll then need around $100 for a visa and airport transfers. On top of that you will need to think about travel insurance, vaccinations and any additional trips you want to take whilst here.
Where will I be based as a volunteer?
Most of our volunteers will be based from Kampala, Uganda; this is the best way to get to know what Hospice does. There are also opportunities to volunteer at our other sites in Uganda, Mbarara in the south and Hoima in the North. If you think you could help us remotely, from any other country, please let us know.
Will I need to do any fundraising before I arrive?
This is not compulsory but we do encourage volunteers to do some fundraising if they can. Once you are here, you’ll be able to see how your money can directly impact patients in Uganda and other African counties.
How long do I need to volunteer for?
If you are travelling to Uganda, we recommend you stay for at least a month but some volunteers have stayed for up to a year. It usually takes a little while to settle in, so in order to make a difference, you will need some time on the ground.
What else can I do whilst volunteering?
Uganda is a spectacular country with lots to see and do. There are 10 national parks, more lakes than you can shake a fish at, the beutiful Rwenzori Mountains and everything in between. You will receive an email giving you some advice on how you can spend your down time.
