Our Aim

Hospice Africa Uganda (HAU) supports countries across the continent in introducing and developing palliative care through its International Programmes division. Our dedicated team collaborates with partner organisations to train healthcare professionals, raise awareness, engage policymakers, and provide vital guidance on starting and sustaining palliative care services in diverse African settings.

Our International Programmes department offers:

  • In-country training courses and advocacy support for those initiating palliative care services to become champions for Palliative Care, advocates and leaders in their organisations and countries.
  • Technical assistance to Hospices and Palliative care teams establishing and expanding their services or commencing the production of oral liquid morphine.
  • Palliative Care Initiators Courses to train health professionals to commence affordable and culturally app

To date, we have trained hundreds healthcare workers from Anglophone countries and Francophone countries.

These efforts have contributed to a remarkable growth in palliative care provision across Africa - expanding from just 3 countries in 1993 to 37 countries by 2025. While progress is ongoing, palliative care in many African countries is still in the early stages of development.
